Vaughan, ON (August 12, 2019) – The Carpenters’ Union (locals 27 and 675) has cemented its place in southwestern York Region’s history with a generous $1-million gift to help build and equip Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. The gift will be directed towards the main waiting area within the state-of-the-art Magna Emergency Department, which will support approximately 75,000 patient visits a year.

The Carpenters’ Union is a long-time supporter of Mackenzie Health and a key partner in advancing construction at Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Many of its members live in the community and have exceptional pride in building the first new hospital in York Region in more than 30 years.

To celebrate this incredible gift, a barbecue was held on Friday, August 9 at Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital to recognize the hundreds of carpenters and interior systems workers who are working tirelessly to build the 1.2 million square foot hospital. This gift brings Mackenzie Health Foundation’s total amount raised to $162 million of its $250-million goal, which represents the community share of the $1.6 billion project.

The Magna Emergency Department at Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will allow Mackenzie Health to better address the increasing demands for urgent and emergency care in its growing communities of Richmond Hill, Vaughan, King and across southwestern York Region. It will include seven spacious treatment zones, including rooms dedicated to resuscitation, acute care, minor treatments, mental health, domestic abuse and sexual assault. When it opens in late 2020, Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will feature fully integrated “smart” technology systems and medical devices – a first for a Canadian community hospital.

QUOTES:

“This generous gift brings us one step closer to delivering the ‘smart’ hospital our community deserves. We’re grateful for the Carpenters’ Union contribution and community leadership. The main waiting area in Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital’s Emergency Department will benefit from this gift and help ensure that it meets the needs of patients and their families.”
 – Altaf Stationwala, President and CEO, Mackenzie Health

 – Rina Pillitteri, Board Chair, Mackenzie Health Foundation

Richmond Hill/Vaughan, ON (June 13, 2019) – Today, the largest single donation in Mackenzie Health’s history was announced: a $40-million gift from the Cortellucci family to help build and equip the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. The gift was announced at the 2019 Vaughan Mayor’s Gala hosted by the honourable Maurizio Bevilacqua, Mayor of Vaughan and Chair of Mackenzie Health Foundation’s Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign.

The Cortellucci family are community leaders and long-standing supporters of Mackenzie Health. Examples of the family’s past support include naming of Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital’s emergency department, ongoing support at Mackenzie Health Foundation’s gala and signature events and leadership in our community, such as support for Hospice Vaughan and Niagara University Vaughan. The Cortellucci family is committed to the health and wellness of patients and families in Richmond Hill, Vaughan, King and surrounding communities. They are currently working with Mackenzie Health and Mackenzie Health Foundation to consider recognition options to honour the record-setting gift and the meaningful impact it will have.

This historic gift also brings Mackenzie Health Foundation’s total amount raised to more than $160 million as part of its Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign. The campaign aims to raise $250 million and is the largest community hospital capital campaign in Canadian history. Hundreds of donors have supported the campaign to date, including 33 donors who’ve generously given $1 million or more.

The 1.2 million sq. ft. Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will feature fully integrated “smart” technology systems and medical devices. This is a first for a community hospital in Canada. As part of Mackenzie Health, Mackenzie Richmond Hill and Mackenzie Vaughan Hospitals will together bring exceptional care and “smart” technology close to home for patients and families in southwest York Region. For patients and families, this means an increase in available beds and more opportunities for care; support for 75,000 emergency visits at Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital, 24,000 medical imaging exams between both sites; and increased capacity for surgery, including leading minimally invasive surgical techniques.

VAUGHAN, ON, April 10, 2019 – Today, a $2 million gift was announced by the Zanchin Automotive Group to support world-class health care in Vaughan and across York Region. The gift will go towards the Mackenzie Health Foundation’s Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign to help build and equip the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital and enhance care at the Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital.

The gift will directly fund a bank of modern, accessible hospital elevators designed to help patients, visitors, staff, physicians and volunteers navigate with ease through the new state-of-the-art Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. This is a natural reflection of how the region’s largest Automotive Dealer group enhances the mobility of the people who live here.

“We are in the mobility business. At Zanchin, we provide our customers with the mobility that suits their needs. Similarly, the new hospital needs to provide its patients and staff with mobility, and we saw a perfect fit,” says Laura and Andria Zanchin, both Executive Vice Presidents of the Zanchin Automotive Group.

This investment reflects the Zanchin Group’s deep roots in the community. “As business owners in the Vaughan community for more than 46 years, we have grown as Vaughan has grown,” says Joe Zanchin, CEO of the Zanchin Automotive Group. “In that time, we have been passionate supporters of community-based initiatives, building lifetime relationships with our clients and employees, and we feel that this state-of-the- art hospital is a natural expression of our love for the community. We truly hope our donation encourages other potential donors to do the same,” says Zanchin.

Mackenzie Health Foundation’s Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign is the largest fundraising drive led by a community hospital in Canada, with a mission to raise $250 million to support Mackenzie Health in caring for the increasing health care needs of its growing communities.

“We are grateful for the support and generosity of Zanchin Automotive,” says Altaf Stationwala, President and CEO, Mackenzie Health. “On behalf of Mackenzie Health and our community, thank you for your leadership.”

“The leadership and generosity of the Zanchin Automotive Group will help create exceptional patient experiences,” says Ingrid Perry, President and CEO of the Mackenzie Health Foundation. “We are grateful for this transformational gift and excited about getting closer to opening our doors to bring world-class care close to home.”

The hospital is scheduled to open in late 2020 to complement the care received at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital. It will feature fully integrated smart technology systems and medical devices – a national first for any community hospital.

“This remarkable donation of $2 million was made possible by the Zanchin Automotive Group,” says the Honourable Maurizio Bevilacqua, Mayor of Vaughan. “This selfless contribution marks yet another important milestone for the completion of Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Building this hospital is about investing in the health and well-being of our citizens and ensuring we all have access to world-class frontline health care for generations to come. As co-chair of the Mackenzie Health Foundation’s Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign, I am in awe of the generosity of this community, including local leaders like Joe Zanchin, CEO of Zanchin Automotive Group. We have well surpassed the $100 million mark and we are very confident to reach our goal. The ongoing construction of Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital is an example of what we can achieve when we work together.”

About the Zanchin Automotive Group

D’Angelo, Giuseppe Maio and Claudio Memme of leading Canadian real estate investment company HBNG Holborn Group (HBNG) today announced a $2-million gift towards the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. This gift will help build the main courtyard with cascading gardens, designed for patients and families as an essential therapeutic space for recreation, socialization and respite.

“As we gain more knowledge around the delivery of health care, there is an understanding that a holistic approach, one that also recognizes mental and social factors in addition to the physical symptoms of a disease, leads to better outcomes,” shared John A. D’Angelo, Giuseppe Maio and Claudio Memme. “It is our hope that with this gift we can help contribute to the well-being of not only patients but also their families.”

Designed to support patients’ overall health and wellness, the main courtyard with cascading gardens helps bring to life Mackenzie Health’s vision of a world-class patient experience. Lush greenery and open spaces create calming and restful areas for patients and families who are awaiting or undergoing care and treatment, or who need relief during stressful times.

“The generosity and leadership of John, Giuseppe and Claudio will help create new possibilities for patients and families to thrive during their health care journey,” says Ingrid Perry, President and CEO, Mackenzie Health Foundation. “Building a hospital is about more than bricks and mortar. It’s about building the best patient experience – from the minute our patients enter, to the moment they leave. This exceptional gift will help us create the hospital our community deserves.”

Mackenzie Health Foundation’s $250-million Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign is spearheaded by a dedicated 33-member cabinet co-chaired by Greg Sorbara and the Honourable Maurizio Bevilacqua, Mayor of the City of Vaughan.

“Today’s celebration recognizes the spirit of generosity that is evident throughout our city. Our compassionate citizens and businesses are committed to safeguarding, improving and elevating the quality of life for our community and beyond,” says Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, Co-Chair of the Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign. “I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to John, Giuseppe and Claudio for their selfless, thoughtful and generous contribution to Mackenzie Health Foundation. This donation marks another historic milestone for the residents of Vaughan, front-line health care professionals and the ongoing construction of the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Baldassarra Family cheque presentation on stageVAUGHAN, ON – The Carlo and Angela Baldassarra Family has pledged $5 million to Mackenzie Health Foundation’s $250-million Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign to help build and equip the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.

“For people today and for the next generations, my family understands how important it is to support and create new healthcare infrastructures in Vaughan,” said Carlo Baldassarra. “This community needs to continue to unite to make Vaughan the best place to live and watch your family grow and prosper.”

The Inpatient Dialysis Unit at Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will be named in honour of Carlo and Angela Baldassarra and Families to recognize their transformative gift.

The opening of Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital – Canada’s first “smart” hospital – will bring a specialized focus to inpatient chronic kidney care, according to Altaf Stationwala, President and CEO of Mackenzie Health.

“Within our two-hospital model of care, Mackenzie Health will continue to provide the spectrum of chronic kidney disease services at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and the satellite sites,” says Mr. Stationwala. “But for the first time in Ontario, there will be a dedicated unit within the new hospital where only admitted patients will receive dialysis.”

Mackenzie Health Foundation’s $250-million Exceptional Care Belongs Here Campaign to help build and equip the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital is being spearheaded by a dedicated 33-member cabinet co-chaired by Greg Sorbara and Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua.

Construction of the new hospital – a 1.2 million sq. ft., state-of-the-heart health care facility featuring fully integrated ‘smart’ technology systems and medical devices – began last fall, and is making significant progress toward the scheduled opening in 2020.

According to Campaign Cabinet Co-chairs, Greg Sorbara and Mayor Bevilacqua, the Baldassarra family has deep roots in Vaughan, as prominent citizens and owners of one of the city’s most respected and prolific homebuilders, the Greenpark Group. “The Baldassarra family’s generous contribution to the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital is a demonstration of their longstanding commitment to city–building. This extraordinary gift is an example of how one family can make a profound impact on the lives of many and their compassion is a source of inspiration for us all. They share the values of hope and optimism, and exemplify the spirit of generosity that defines our community,” says Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, Campaign Cabinet Co-chair. “The Baldassarra family’s latest gift to Mackenzie Health is a testament to their continued commitment to making this community stronger and is a shining example for others in the community who share the desire to bring this much-needed hospital to Vaughan for the benefit of this and future generations,” adds Mr. Sorbara.

Mackenzie Health currently operates the York Region Chronic Kidney Disease program as a multi-site program based at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital with satellite sites in Oak Ridges and Vaughan. The regional program provides the full continuum of chronic kidney disease services from kidney care clinics to hemodialysis and home dialysis therapies, as well as inpatient and outpatient services. Ambulatory hemodialysis is available at all three locations to accommodate patient preference and condition.

The new Inpatient Dialysis Unit at Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will have six dialysis stations, with the potential for eight, and is being designed exclusively for inpatient treatment. According to Dr. Michael Pandes, Physician Lead, Chronic Kidney Disease Program, the new unit will uniquely position Mackenzie Health to deliver optimized chronic kidney disease care.

“Most chronic kidney disease units in the province function as ambulatory units, where admitted patients receive care among outpatients,” says Dr. Pandes. “The impact of the Baldassarra family’s donation is profound. Our nephrology team will be able to deliver person-focused care to our admitted patients who often present more complex cases of chronic kidney disease in a unit designed specifically for their needs.”

About Greenpark Group

Building Success From The Ground Up For 50 Years.

In 1967, less than 10 years after he first stepped foot onto Canadian soil, Carlo Baldassarra founded Greenpark. Along with his two partners, Jack Wine and Philip Rechtsman, Carlo set out to build quality homes for families throughout the GTA. From the beginning, Carlo was a visionary who understood the future potential of the building industry and was eager to bring this potential to life. He adopted forward-thinking strategies to expand and build in greater quantities and in larger formats, resulting in entire communities quickly blanketing the Toronto area. Carlo’s methods were unique, powerful and brilliant resulting in the company thriving through some of the country’s weakest economic periods.

Fifty years later, the Greenpark Group, now solely owned by the Carlo Baldassarra Family, is widely recognized as Canada’s most vast and trusted home builder, with over 72,000 homes built to date. In honour of Carlo’s legacy in the building industry, he received the 2014 BILD Lifetime Achievement Award. While building homes for thousands of families, Carlo also built his own family along with his wife Angela, and their three sons – Mauro, Armando and Michael. The Greenpark legacy, led by the Baldassara family, is as strong as ever and positioned for continued growth in Canada and beyond. All three sons grew up in the business and under the guidance of their father. Each son became integral to the continued expansion and success of the Greenpark Group.
